Watford Wizards at the First GB International trophy – A Weekend to Remember
What a weekend, what a tournament, what an experience.
Elisabeth and I (Greg) had the incredible opportunity to travel and support our national teams in action—and what a show they put on. From the electric energy of the crowd to the world-class skill on the court, the entire weekend was a celebration of the sport we all love.
We were proud to see GB in both the men’s and women’s finals. The men gave it their all but narrowly missed out, while the women’s team delivered a thrilling 4–3 victory—an unforgettable moment and a true showcase of determination and teamwork.
But this trip was about more than just watching the matches. We were fortunate to spend time speaking with some of the national squads, learning new techniques and building connections that we’re excited to bring back to Watford. A particular highlight was learning a speed and stamina exercise from the French team’s sport fitness coach—something we’re eager to implement with our Watford Wizards. On a more important and less discussed side was the lessons in emotional resilience, mental health and wellbeing. These are key elements in finding that perfect balance in training and game day activities.
Having some of our academy kids there with us was especially inspiring. They absorbed the atmosphere, the skills, and the sportsmanship—being surrounded by that level of passion and talent over the two days was an experience they’ll carry with them on and off the court.
This is a sport with deep roots and an incredible future—accessible, dynamic, and engaging for everyone involved.
We’re energised, inspired, and ready to bring that spirit back to Watford.
