Having suitable protective equipment helps players take part in goalball safely and comfortably. This guide explains the equipment commonly used by goalball players and provides examples of products available online.

Equipment for all players
1. Eyeshades
All players wear blackout eyeshades so that everyone competes under the same conditions. Eyeshades should fit securely, provide complete blackout and remain comfortable during play.
The club can provide eyeshades for a first session. Regular and competitive players may benefit from having their own pair.

2. Elbow and knee pads
Elbow and knee pads are strongly recommended. They help protect players when defending, diving and making contact with the floor.
The same style of soft protective pad can sometimes be used on both the knees and elbows. When purchasing pads for the elbows, it may be worth trying a smaller size than the one used for the knees. Players should check that the pads fit securely without restricting movement or circulation.

3. Hip padding
Padded compression shorts can provide additional protection around the hips, thighs and tailbone. Hip padding is optional, but some players find it helpful when diving or landing on the court.

Additional protection for male players

Additional protection for female players
