Watford Wizards Crowned Regional Champions for 2025 2026 – A Season of Excellence
Watford Wizards have been crowned Goalball UK 2025–26 Regional League (Region C) Champions, securing the Shield following a determined and impressive performance at Tournament 3, held on Saturday 18th April at the Knox-Johnston Sports Centre, Berkhamsted School.
Coming into the final round, the team faced a unique challenge. With a four-week break from training due to holidays and scheduling clashes, success would depend not just on physical preparation, but on mental strength, adaptability, and teamwork. The response from the squad was exceptional.
Match 1
Cambridge Dons 2 – 7 Watford Wizards
The Wizards opened strongly with a composed and controlled performance, securing a 7–2 victory over Cambridge Dons. The team set the tone early with disciplined defence, clear communication, and confident attacking play throughout the game.
Match 2
Watford Wizards 7 – 4 Chelmsford FM
The second match resulted in a 7–4 win for Watford, but it proved to be a valuable learning moment. Despite securing the result, errors crept into the performance — including lapses in defence, moments of lost focus, and inconsistencies in attack. It served as a reminder of the standards required and highlighted clear areas for development moving forward.
Match 3
Watford Wizards 3 – 5 Chelmsford AM
The third fixture saw Watford deliver one of their most complete performances of the tournament, despite the 3–5 defeat. The team showed strong structure, discipline, and commitment throughout, but were edged out by a slightly stronger side. It was a match that demonstrated both quality and character, where the result did not fully reflect the strength of the performance.
Match 4
Watford Wizards 4 – 0 Croysutt Warriors
With everything on the line in the final match, the team showed the composure and resilience of true champions. Rising to the challenge, Watford delivered a dominant 4–0 victory, combining defensive discipline, controlled attacking play, and precise communication at exactly the right moment.
A Championship Mindset
During the tournament, a quote spotted by Elisabeth captured the essence of the team’s approach:
“If we score we might win, if they never score we can’t lose.”
This mindset was evident throughout the day a commitment to strong defensive structure, disciplined play, and collective responsibility. It is this foundation that has enabled Watford Wizards to grow, compete, and ultimately succeed.
Individual Achievements
The season also saw outstanding individual performances:
• Orla Fitzgerald – Top Female Goal Scorer (10 goals)
• Finley Dolan – Second Top Male Goal Scorer (22 goals)
Congratulations to Hannah, who attended her first-ever tournament playing for Watford.
A Team to Be Proud Of
