Watford Wizards Intermediate Trophy 2026

The Watford Wizards travelled to compete in the Sports Insure Goalball UK Intermediate Trophy 2026, taking place across the weekend of Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May 2026 in the Institute of Sports in Sheffield.

This was another exciting opportunity for our Intermediate team to compete against clubs from across the country, gain more experience, and continue building on what has been a fantastic 2025/2026 season for the club.

The Wizards finished the weekend in 6th place overall, after a strong set of performances across both the pool games and final placing matches.

Saturday 9th May 2026

Match 1

Fen Tigers 7 – 5 Watford Wizards

The Wizards opened the tournament against Fen Tigers in a challenging and competitive first match.

Watford found the opening stages difficult and struggled to settle into the game during the first few minutes, allowing Fen Tigers to build an early lead. However, the team showed real character and resilience, especially in the second half, where they worked hard to regain control and pull the score line back.

Although Fen Tigers held on to take the win, the Wizards’ response after a difficult start was a real positive, with the final score finishing 7–5.

Match 2

London Elephants 2 – 4 Watford Wizards

Watford responded well in their second match with a strong win against London Elephants.

The team showed good communication, solid defence, and confidence in attack to secure an important 4–2 victory in the pool stages.

Match 3

Watford Wizards 5 – 2 Greater Manchester Falcons

The final match on Saturday saw the Wizards put in another strong performance, this time against Greater Manchester Falcons.

Watford controlled key moments of the game and worked well as a team to secure a 5–2 win, ending the first day with two wins from three matches.

The Wizards started Sunday with an excellent performance against West Yorkshire.

Watford showed strong teamwork, discipline, and attacking confidence throughout the match, securing a convincing 7–2 victory.

5th/6th Place Match

Blackburn Bullets 4 – 3 Watford Wizards

The final match of the weekend was a very close game against Blackburn Bullets.

The Wizards battled hard and pushed right until the end, but Blackburn Bullets narrowly took the win by just one goal. It was a tough result, but a strong performance to finish the weekend.

Final Placing

6th Place – Watford Wizards

Finishing 6th overall was a positive result for the Wizards in a competitive national tournament.

The weekend gave the team another valuable opportunity to test themselves, develop as a squad, and continue gaining experience at Intermediate level.

Looking Ahead

The experience from this tournament will only help strengthen the team as we continue to move forward.

With lessons learned, confidence gained, and more competitive matches played, the Wizards can be proud of their efforts across the weekend.

Go Wizards!

Regional Player Congratulations

We would also like to say a big well done to two of our Regional players, who attended their first tournament over the weekend and played for Cambridge Dons.

This was a fantastic achievement and a great opportunity for them to gain tournament experience, continue developing their goalball skills, and enjoy being part of a competitive goalball weekend.

Everyone at Watford Goalball Club is proud of them both, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow in confidence and experience on court.

Summary of the Weekend

The Wizards showed strong teamwork, resilience, and commitment across the Sports Insure Goalball UK Intermediate Trophy 2026.

With three wins across the weekend and a close final placing match, there were lots of positives to take forward. The team should be proud of how they represented Watford Goalball Club.

We are hugely grateful to Goalball UK for organising the event, Sports Insure for supporting the competition, and to all the coaches, volunteers, officials, and supporters who helped make the weekend possible.
