Watford Wizards' Marauder's Miles Challenge
A Magical Fundraising Challenge for Watford Goalball Club
This summer, the Watford Wizards are embarking on a magical fundraising challenge to support the future of Watford Goalball Club.
Across the seven Harry Potter books there are approximately 1,084,170 words. To celebrate the magical inspiration behind our team name, a group of Watford Wizards will be attempting to complete one metre for every word in the series.
Together, our team will walk, run, cycle and swim a combined distance of 1,084,170 metres — that's over 1,084 kilometres or approximately 674 miles — during the course of the challenge.
While the theme may be magical, the impact is very real.
Every metre completed and every pound raised will help support blind and partially sighted people to access sport, develop confidence, build friendships and become part of a supportive community through Goalball.

What is Goalball?
Goalball is a Paralympic team sport specifically designed for blind and partially sighted people.
Teams of three compete using a ball fitted with bells, relying on hearing, communication, teamwork and spatial awareness to defend their goal and score against their opponents. All players wear eyeshades to ensure an equal playing field.
Goalball is one of the few sports created specifically for people with visual impairments and provides opportunities for participation from grassroots level right through to international competition.
More Than Just a Sport
For many players, Goalball provides much more than physical activity.
It creates opportunities to build confidence, develop independence and form lasting friendships with people who share similar experiences.
Many visually impaired people face barriers to accessing sport and social activities. Goalball provides an environment where players can challenge themselves, learn new skills and become part of a welcoming and supportive community.
The friendships formed through Goalball often extend far beyond training sessions and competitions. Players regularly share advice, experiences and practical support that helps them navigate everyday life with sight loss.
Watford Goalball Club has proudly supported visually impaired people across Hertfordshire and beyond, helping players develop both on and off the court while creating opportunities for people of all ages to become involved in sport.
Why We Need Your Support
As a volunteer-led community sports club, Watford Goalball Club relies on fundraising, grants and donations to keep our activities accessible and affordable.
Funds raised through the Marauder's Miles Challenge will help support:
Sports hall hire and training facilities
Goalball equipment and replacement kit
Junior and youth development sessions
Competition opportunities
Volunteer training and support
Continued growth of the club
Every donation helps ensure that blind and partially sighted people can continue to access the sport, friendships and opportunities that Goalball provides.
