Mischief Managed! Watford Wizards Complete the Marauder’s Miles Challenge for 2026
Throughout August 2026, the Watford Wizards took on a very different challenge away from the goalball court – our Marauder’s Miles Challenge.
Inspired by the approximately 1,084,170 words across the seven Harry Potter books, our team set themselves the magical target of completing one metre for every word.
That meant collectively walking, running, cycling, swimming and getting active across an incredible 1,084,170 metres – approximately 674 miles.
By the end of the month, not only had we reached our target – we had gone far beyond it!
Our Final Challenge Results

That is an incredible 592,097 metres beyond our original target, meaning we completed approximately 155% of the challenge.
From walks and runs to cycling and other activities, every contribution helped move the Wizards further along our magical journey.
We definitely put some serious mileage on our trainers along the way – and thankfully, no magical transport was required!

The Marauder’s Miles Challenge was about more than completing the distance.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone who supported the challenge, we raised an amazing £689 for Watford Goalball Club.
The money raised will help towards the cost of running our goalball training sessions and continuing to provide opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to get involved in sport.
As a volunteer-led community sports club, fundraising and donations play an important part in helping us keep our activities accessible and affordable.
A Fantastic Team Effort
One of the best parts of the challenge was seeing everyone contribute in their own way.
Some participants completed longer distances, while others regularly added smaller amounts throughout the month. Every single metre counted towards the same shared goal.
It was a fantastic example of the teamwork and community spirit that sits at the heart of Watford Goalball.
Goalball itself relies heavily on communication and teamwork, and although Marauder’s Miles took place away from the court, that same team spirit was evident throughout the challenge.
